This is a guide to the Wizarding World Harry Potter theme park at Universal Orlando. This guide will provide tips to make sure that you get more out of your vacation to Orlando. There iwill be tips on how to save time, money and effort during your stay.
The Things To Do In Universal Orlando To Enjoy The Wizarding World
Do purchase a multi park pass so that you can visit all or as many of the Universal Orlando theme parks as you wish. It is worth getting a pass even if the original intention is just to use it for the Hogwarts Express.
Do go on the Hogwarts Express in both directions. You will get to see of Universal Orlando if you do as the train goes by a different route in each direction.
Do check that attractions and rides are open early as only limited parts of Universal Orlando are open early. An early pass will get you into Diagon Ally plus the Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts.
Do get a lanyard with a clear plastic card holder to put your park pass into, as it would easier to lose or get damaged without one.
Do buy an express pass if you can afford it, to reduce the amount of time spent queuing in Universal Orlando instead of enjoying the rides earlier.
Do eat at any of the themed restaurants and eateries, these are not as expensive as you might think.
Do experience the theme park at night, as special events like Mardi Gras are sometimes held
Attractions at Universal Orlando
It is the attractions as well as the rides that people visit Universal Orlando to experience.
Diagon Alley features the ride Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, and there is a copy of Kings Cross train station with it’s very own Platform 9 3/4. Then you could wait for the Knight Bus, or even stand outside 12 Grimmauld Place. Looking over everybody is an ironbelly dragon on top of Gringotts, that lets out a fireball roughly every 20 mnutes.
If you decide to go to Diagon Alley get yourself a full English breakfast at the Leaky Cauldron after enjoying the ride. From there head to Olivander’s Wand Shop, and if you time it right for a show it is an even better experience. If you buy any of the interactive wands keep searching for hidden points where you can attempt to cast spells (these have small targets).
If you like dark and shadowy places be sure to visit Knockturn Alley, where surprises await you. For darker themed gifts and souvenirs have a look round Borgin and Burkes . After that board the Hogwarts Express to go to the next attraction.
There are three rides in Hogsmeade, the Flight of the Hippogriff (best for smaller children), Hagrid’s Magical Creature Motorbike Adventure, as well as Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. Besides these rides there are stores to visit such as Dervish and Banges besides Filch’s Emporium of Consfiscated Goods. You could even treat yourself to a personal copy of the Monster Book of Monsters, even though it is the cuddly edition it may still bite.
Should you want a soft drink or something a little stronger go to the Hogs Head to buy Butterbeer, Pumpkin Juice, beers, wnes and spirits. Go to the Three Broomsticks for snacks and meals especially if the rides and the shopping have made you hungry.
Guide to Universal Orlando Rides
Though the attractions, shops and restarants are good to experience the majority of people visit Universal Orlando to enjoy the rides. Here are highlights of some of the rides:
The Hogwarts Express
Enjoy going round Universal Orlando in style, with this exact recreation of the train and carriages that witchs and wizards go onboard for travelling to and from Hogwarts school. The journeys are different depending on, which way you are going. It also uses less energy than walking.
Flight of the Hippogriff
This is a small roller coaster designed for small children, adults especially taller ones may find it less comfortable and cramped.
From this ride you will have a better vantage point for the grounds of Hogwarts not to mention Hagrid’s hut.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
This ride gives a tour of Hogwarts school even the parts that witches and wizards were not supposed to go to, such as the Room of Requirement.
There are times when the ride moves about a fair bit, so be aware of this if you have any issues with motion sickness.
This ride will even take you across the Quidditch pitch and be prepared for roaming Dementors attempting to scare you.
Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts
This ride has plenty going on all the time, indeed if you have enough time go through it a few times to make sure you notice everything that is going on. You may get to see many of the main characters good and bad as you move through Gringotts. As well as Hary, Ron and Hermione there are other Weasleys besides Voldemort and Belatrix lurking about.
Perhaps this is the ride in Universal Orlando with the most cameras, though it is more about selling photos than keeping the vaults safe.
Hagrid’s Magical Creature Motorbike Adventure
Hagrid with a bit of help from Arthur Weasley will show you magical creatures, motorbikes and take you through the Forbidden Forest. There are thrills, spills and possible risks all the way round the ride. Furthermore, there are things to see and experience while you are queuing to get on the ride.
You will want to go this ride time and time again.
